Gio Messale has worked in the theatre-arts and entertainment business for over 20 years. Recently, Gio was head of content and one of the original executives at BroadwayHD, a start-up subscriber-based streaming platform and production media company that films and streams Broadway, Off-Broadway, West End, Performing Arts shows, and Studio film adaptations.
Responsible for high-level content, Gio produced and executive managed over 30 film recordings of Broadway, Off-Broadway, and West End shows, including Billy Crystal in Mr. Saturday Night: A New Musical Comedy, She Loves Me, which was the first Broadway show to be live- streamed in 80 countries, Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn: The Broadway Musical, A Night with Janis Joplin, Present Laughter starring Kevin Kline and Cobie Smulders, Indecent starring Katrina Lenk, John Patrick Shanley's The Portuguese Kid starring Jason Alexander and Stephen Schwartz' Snapshots which received Grammy nomination for the cast album and on behalf of his work for BroadwayHD. Besides streaming on BroadwayHD, these film recordings have been televised on PBS Great Performances and theatrically with Fathom Events, Shochiku Cinema, and worldwide.
In addition, Gio recently produced King Falcon's When the Party is Over music video. His first low-budget independent feature, Love or Whatever, starring Kate Flannery, Tyler Poelle, Jennifer Elise Cox, and Joel Rush, sold out on Amazon on the first day of release. He was also part of the producing team for AT&T's Love is Changing History films Jenny, directed by Pauley Perrette, and Tale of Two Dads, directed by Lance Bass.
Before leaping into independent producing, Gio worked in the production department at Paramount Pictures, where he received the 2005 Viacom Visionary Award. During his tenure, he worked on 25 films in various stages of development and production, including J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, Indiana Jones: Kingdom of The Crystal Skull, directed by Steven Spielberg, Mission Impossible: 3, and Shutter Island, directed by Martin Scorsese.
Gio's theatre credits include stage managing the Los Angeles Company of The Lion King, the National Tour of Titanic, The Public Theater's production of Arthur Millers' The Ride Down Mt. Morgan starring Patrick Stewart and Francis Conroy, as well as The Wild Party starring Mandy Patinkin, Vanessa Williams, and Earth Kitt. One of Gio's fondest experiences is the all-star concert of Sweet Charity at Avery Fisher Hall, starring Gwen Verdon, Chita Rivera, Debbie Allen, Bebe Neuwirth, and Donna McKechnie.
A graduate of the Drama, Theater, and Dance department at Queens College, Gio is currently in post-production on the documentary Body Electric, which explores aging, body dysmorphia, and image in the queer community.
